Lansing/Jackson Center Cemetery, Jackson TownshipIndex of Lansing/Jackson Center Cemetery burials . . . .
The Lansing Cemetery, also referred to as the Jackson Center Cemetery and the
Jackson Township Cemetery, was
located approximately one mile west of Jackson Center in an area once referred
to as Lansing. In this area Robert Lansing was the owner of Forest Mill, a grist
mill, situated in the northwest quarter of the northwest quarter of the
southwest quarter of Section 21 (a ten acre parcel).
The Lansing community included a United States Post Office that operated from
September 9, 1851, to May 14, 1857, with Elijah H. Johnson serving as the
postmaster.
Various plat maps fail to denote a cemetery located in the area. However,
it is known that at least 27 individuals were interred in this cemetery.

Newspaper item concerning Lansing Cemetery:
WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP
Ward B. Miller, of Cleveland, Ohio, a retired Michigan lumberman, visited
Saturday, August 4th with J. V. Noble and family. Mr. Miller was born in the
vicinity of Flint lake. His father enlisted for the Civil war while his mother,
with three little children, went to Ohio to live with her parents, during her
husband's service. The soldier father is buried in the country graveyard on the
Rand farm, near Suman, where about 80 other pioneer residents are buried and the
ground is now mostly consumed by the farm and partly cultivated. The purpose of
Mr. Miller's visit to Porter county is to redeem this cemetery and in the near
future the ground will be surveyed and referenced. Any who are interested in
this matter can assist Mr. Miller at any time in locating the graves of their
relatives.
