Boone Grove GI Is Listed As Missing
A Porter county soldier is missing is action in Korea, his mother advised The
Vidette-Messenger today.
He is Sgt. Delbert Mace, of the U. S. Army, who has been in Korea since April 1,
1951.
Word concerning Sgt. Mace was received in a telegram from the Defense department
by the soldier's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Mace, RFD 2, Valparaiso.
Sgt. Mace is 24 years of age. He attended the Boone Grove High school. He
entered the army service Oct. 5, 1950.

Mother Told Son Killed In Action
Sgt. Delbert Mace Was Previously Listed As Missing
Sgt. First Class Delbert Ulysses Mace, 26, RFD 2, was killed in action two years
ago in Korea, his mother, Mrs. Albert Mace, RFD 2, notified The
Vidette-Messenger Tuesday afternoon. Mrs. Mace said she has just received word
from military authorities about her son, who had been listed previously as
missing in action.
The victim's parents were notified that Mace was killed Dec. 12, 1951, near
Chosori, North Korea, where he was a member of an infantry patrol which was
attacked by opposing forces. Sgt. Mace was hit by small arms fire during the
attack.
Born May 8, 1938 [1928], in Akron, O., the son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Mace, he
was graduated from Boone Grove High school, and worked in the Gary mills prior
to entering military service.
He was in service about a year before he was killed. He had been stationed at
Camp Atterbury, Ind., before going overseas in February, 1951.
Surviving in addition to his parents are two brothers, Clyde of Valparaiso, and
Ronnie at home, and two sisters, Mrs. Virginia Hitesman and Mrs. Violet Brennan,
both of Valparaiso.
