C. A. R. Was Organized On April 26, 1924
The Elizabeth Bassett Harrison Society of the Children of the American
Revolution was organized on April 26, 1921, the organization meeting being held
at the home of Alfreda Putnam. Mrs. George F. Chester was appointed senior
president. Mrs. Alice Gregory was elected junior president; Isabel Ely,
recording secretary; Margaret Stapleton, corresponding secretary; James Chester,
treasurer; Alfreda Putnam, historian; and Jack Chester, color bearer. Other
charter members were Marvin Cook, Velma Cook, Rosemary Ely, Worthington Ely,
Laura B. Gregory, and Sarah Jane Stapleton. Junior presidents serving in the
order named were: Mary Alice Gergory, Isabel Ely, Anna Mae Stewart, Velma Cook
and Alfreda Putnam. This organization is patriotic in purpose, and members may
transfer to the D. A. R. and the S. A. R. upon reaching maturity. Senior
presidents in the order named are Mrs. George F. Chester, Mrs. Ralph Powell, and
Mrs. Allan McKollips. Mrs. Chester is now serving as Indiana's director of the
organization.
