Church of Christ Scientist
The First Church of Christ, Scientist, was organized in 1908 after a group of
earnest students of Christian Science had held services in the home of one of
their members.
The first lecture on Christian Science given in Valparaiso was delivered by
Judge William G. Ewing, C. S. B., on January 4, 1909.
In September, 1916, the lot at the corner of Calumet avenue, Institute and
Franklin avenue, was purchased of P. L. Sisson, and on July 23, 1931, the
cornerstone of the first unit of a permanent church home was laid.
The organization continues to grow in strength and works ever keeping in mind
the aim and prophecy of the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, Mary
Baker Eddy, which is "to reinstate primative Christianity and restore its last
element of healing."
