Remark: This school, located northwest of
the present day intersection of Broadway and Marne Street in the community of
Beverly Shores, was designed by South Bend, Indiana, architect Willard Elwood,
and was built at a cost of $23,000 in 1931. The building consisted of two large
23-feet by 36-feet classrooms and an auditorium of 25-feet by 37-feet. The
school was built to house grades five and higher. The building was "equipped
with a steam heating plant, automatic temperature control, electric lights, and
modern lavatory facilities." The foundations of the building were designed to
permit the construction of an additional story and additions could be added to
each side of the structure to enlarge it. The building's target date of
completion was October 24, 1931. The school closed in 1980 due to low enrollment
and was razed in 1986.
