Remark: Located in today's Morgan Park
neighborhood, this water tower was about one-half mile west of the Chesterton
post office, which in 1910 was located on present day Second Street just south
of Broadway Avenue. The tower and pump house no longer exist. The photograph was
taken looking northwest.
The gravity tank water tower was 76 feet high and had a capacity of 50,000
gallons. The pump house was eight feet by 12 feet in size and contained a 25
horsepower gasoline to power the pumps. Water from the well fed through a six
inch pipe to the water tower and from the tower water was fed through an eight
inch main.
